This is the second installment in the old squads section, as always a lot of work has gone into researching the information, I would love to hear from you if you have any more information. Recently I spoke to Jamie Price himself, who helped me with some of the information I had missed, I am aware I might have missed more, so simply leave a comment or contact me and I can make updates.
Goalkeepers
Andy Warrington

Barry Richardson

Martin Kearney
Very hard to find much about the goalkeeper, he was a youngster during his days at Rovers, and I don't think he made a professional appearances, he did play in the youth team and reserves, he is on this list due to the fact he was registered as a first team player to provide cover for Andy and Barry. He was known to be a good character, always smiling and making jokes. In septemeber 2001 Martin joined Frickley Athletic. Martin is currently at Carlton Town Fc.
Defenders
Simon Marples

Simon Shaw
Spent his youth career at Darlington before joining Rovers in 1998. He stayed at Belle Vue until 2001 making 36 appearances. The full back then signed for Barrow where I believe he remained until 2008. Simon, now aged 40 is a teacher in Middlesbrough.
Dean Barrick

Dean Walling
Known for his aerial ability, he signed in 1999 from Lincoln, previously playing for Carlisle and Rochdale. He made 42 appearances for Rovers before leaving in 2001 and joining Northwich Victoria, like many ex Rovers players. He then moved to Cambridge, Gainsborough and Nuneaton where he retired in 2003. Since retiring Dean has done media work and runs a soccer academy in Lincoln, now aged 44. He also made 2 international appearances for Saint Kitts and Nevis. He also boasts scoring a penalty at Wembley during the 1997 League cup final.
Colin Hawkins
Colin started his career at Coventry City but left in 1997 after failing to make an appearance, he moved to Irish team St. Patrick's athletic making 89 appearances, winning the Irish league twice 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 before joining Rovers in 2000, he only stayed at Belle Vue until 2001 making 38 appearances scoring 4 goals, he left the club due to financial reasons, after a hard time breaking into Steve Wignall's side. He then moved back to his home country to play for Bohemians, it was here that he won the Irish League for the third time in 2002-2003 season. Dispite this success he was not rated by many fans due to poor performances, he remained at the club until 2004 making 88 appearances, he then moved to rivals Shelbourne after his contract had expired at Bohemians, he then won his fourth league title in 2004. In January 2007 Colin signed his first professional deal for English Championship side, and previous team, Coventry City. He made a promising start to his return, however in his second season an Achilles injury put a halt to his progress, new manager Chris Coleman deemed Colin a surplus to requirements and he was sent on loan to Chesterfield before leaving the club in 2008 and signing for Brighton by new boss old Coventry manager Micky Adams. Colin became a fans favorite at the club dispite making just 18 appearances and being released in 2010. He returned to Ireland to be closer to his family and signed for Sporting Fingal. The team folded in 2011 due to financial reasons leaving Colin without a club, he soon signed for Dundalk for one year. In January 2012 he signed as player/coach at Shramrock Rovers, where he remains today.
Tim Ryan
Time 'shoot' Ryan started his career at Scunthorpe United before playing for Buxton, he then joined Rovers in 1996, however due to club politics that we are all too familiar with at that time, he was loaned to Alrincham in 1997. During this time he has a disagreement with chairman Ken Richardson which resulted in Tim saying, he would never return to play for Rovers again. In 1997 he signed for Southport where he stayed until 2000 making 114 appearances. In 2000, with Ken gone and the club offering Tim a full time contract, the left back returned to Belle Vue. The popular figure made a further 181 appearances scoring 6 goals including some stunning long range strikes, this made the crowd shout 'shoot' whenever Tim was on the ball in an almost possible shooting position. In 2006 he had a brief spell at Peterborough before signing for Boston United. In 2007 he returned to play under previous manager Dave Penney at Darlington where he stayed until 2009, with a 2008 loan spell to Harrogate. After Darlington he joined Chester City where he became caretaker manager for 1 game which ended goaless, Tim then became assistant to the new manager, Jim Harvey. With Chester's financial problems, he left the club in 2010 and joined Stalybridge Cetlic along with Jim Harvey. He remained there until 1013 and had a brief spell with Bradford Park Avenue making 10 appearances before returning to Buxton as a player/manager
Mark Barnard
Signed for Rovers in 1999 from Darlington, where he had made 140 appearances. He made 49 appearances for Rovers scoring 4 goals. Mark, like Dean moved to Northwich in 2000 where he stayed until 2002 before returning to Worksop Town, a club he had played for before Darlington. He stayed here until 2003 and then had short spells at Tamworth and again at Northwich. Between 2004-2005 he made 60 appearances for Harrogate before moving to Stalybridge Celtic until 2006, Alfreton until 2008 and finally Belper Town in the Northern Premier League Divison One South, was also assistant manager at Belper. Mark retired in 2007
Barry Miller
Barry spent his best days at Belle Vue, signing initailly on loan in 2000 before a 10,000 pound move from Gillinham. Baryy made 66 appearnaces for Rovers and even captained the side. A knee operation meant he missed the start of the 2002/2003 season. Barry was well liked by fans not only for his solid performances in centre back on the pitch but he was a nice guy off it. In 2003 he left Rovers and joined Hucknall until a 2004 move to Leigh Genesis. He also spent time on loan to Burton Albion. He also had spells with Worksop and Ilkeston. Barry retired aged 30 after a health scare and the birth of his daughter. Berry now works part time at a church still living in Yorkshire. In September 2013 he returned to Rovers as temporary Chaplin.
Jamie Price
Jamie spent his youth career at Leeds, he signed for Rovers in 1999 making 45 appearances before leaving in 2005. He went on to play for a variety of clubs including York and Harrogate. He is now 32 and plays for Bradford Park Avenue. I recently wrote a article about his career. I recently wrote an article about Jamie's career, read it here, the link will open a new window to allow you to keep reading on this page.
Midfielders
Mark Atkins
Doncaster born, started his career at Scunthorpe, in 1988 Mark moved to Blackburn Rovers for £45,000 and is still remembered by many older fans there today. He played 257 games for Blackburn scoring 35 goals and was an important team member, helping them win the Premiership in the 1994-1995 season. Shortly after this he was transferred to Wolves for £1 million, a fee that was a large amount then. Mark has since he feels he should of never left Blackburn. He stayed at Wolves for 4 seasons making 126 appearances, until he was released in 1999 and joined York City short term. He then joined his hometown club, Doncaster and was even joint caretaker manager along with Dave Penney for 5 games following Ian Snodin's dismissal. After this season, with Steve Wignall taking over as manager, Mark returned to his playing role. He was loaned to Hull City in 2001 before joining Shrewsbury permanently, making 72 appearances between 2001 and 2007. He also took charge of 1 game at Gay Meadow against his first club Scunthorpe. His final playing season was 2003-2004 for Harrogate, where he also did some coaching. After retiring from playing he stayed at the club as assistant manager. In January 2005 he and manager joined Stalybridge Celtic until April 2007. Mark is currently manager of Matlock Town where he has been since November 2008. A number of ex Rovers play for him; Oscar Radford, Bradley Grayson, Martin Foster and Snodin son, Jordan Snodin.
Matty Caudwell
Before playing for Rovers he was a post man. And since leaving that job, your letters probably don't come as quick. He signed for Rovers from part time club Hallam Fc in 1998 by Ian Snodin. Matty was known for using his pace to beat defenders on the left wing. He made 69 appearances for Rovers scoring 7 goals. During his time at Belle Vue, Matty not only attracted a large female following, but interest from bigger clubs, however Rovers ruled out a move. In 2002 Matty was out of favor, and left to join Worksop. In October 2007 he joined Matlock Town. He was also at Gainsborough, however I am unable to find a current club for him.
Andy Watson
Played for Yorkshire Amateur and Farsley Celtic before joining rovers from Garfoth Town in 1998 for 25,000. The winger made 86 appearances scoring 8 goals, and at times he was fantastic, however at other times he was unnoticeable, he was a big game player and this earned him interest from bigger clubs including Sunderland. In 2003 Andy refused to sign a new contract at Belle Vue and left hopeful to sign a contract for a bigger club. Unfortunately he didn't get his break and signed for Tamworth, not the Premiership club he had been hoping for. His time at Tamworth was short after losing his driving license made him unable to travel. He returned to his previous club Farlsey Celtic in 2003-2004 season and then signed for Chester City for the 2004-2005 season which included a loan spell at Forest Green Rovers. In 2005 Andy returned for a 3rd time to Farsley Celtic, he was still at the club in 2008. Unfortunately i cannot find further information about him, now aged 35 he may of retired, his career was often disrupted due to injury. To be fair to Andy, he has since said his biggest footballing regret was leaving Rovers. He explained we had offered him a new deal for 4 years but agents were telling him he could go to bigger and better things, so he rejected to contract offer to his understanding the door was going to be open for him to return, should a deal with a bigger club not happen. However his move to a bigger club and Sunderland fell through, and Rovers had already signed a replacement in the form of Michael Mcindoe.
Martin Foster
Came initailly on loan from Scottish club Greenock Morton, his days at Belle Vue were just 1999-2001 making 28 appearances. He has since had many clubs, Forest Green Rovers 2001-2004 with 134 appearances, Halifax 2004-2007 with 94 appearances, Oxford, Rushden and Diamonds, Tamworth, Eastwood and Harrogate. Martin is now at Matlock Town under manager Mark Atkins.
Jamie Paterson
Unfortunately due to a current Nottingham Forest player of the same name it is hard to find much info on our ex Rover. Jamie joined Rovers from Halifax in 2000, he had started his career at Halifax before moving to his native home, Scotland to play for Falkirk for the 1994-1995 season, he returned to England with Scunthorpe United where he stayed for 2 seasons before returning to Halifax in 1997, he scored the goal that took them back into the football league in 1998 with Rovers going the other way, he was their top goalscorer for the 1999-2000 season. The wee Scotsman was a fans favorite at Belle Vue, scoring on his debut and winning back to back player of the year for his first and second seasons at Rovers. In the 2003-2004 season Jamie joined Barrow, and in 2005 he joined Kettering where he was captain and played under short term manager Paul Gascoigne. The most recent club he played for was Brackley Town who he joined in November 2008. Now aged 40 he has retired from playing football, I cannot find any evidence for what he is doing now, I believe he is still living local to Halifax and has a son called Nathon.
Dave Penney
Dave joined Rovers after a good career which started at Derby when the then bricklayer was spotted playing for Pontefract Collieries in 1985. He signed for Oxford for 175,000 pounds in 1989 making 110 appearances. He then went on to play for the two Welsh clubs, first Swansea and then Cardiff. In 1998 he signed for Rovers making 63 appearances scoring 13 goals. Following Ian Snodin's departure Dave became player/caretaker manager alongside Mark Atkins. He hung up the boots in 2002 and replaces Steve Wignall as manager for Rovers, with Mickey Walker as his assistant. The pair guided Rovers to promotion through the playoffs in 2002/2003 season and the Division 3 champions in 2003/2004 season. He was also in charge for our famous League cup run which ended in penaltys the quarter finals against Arsenal. However he has took Rovers as far as he could and parted company in August 2006, to be replaces by Sean O'Driscoll. Dave managed 241 games with Rovers winning 114. In October 2006 he was appointed manager at Darlington until April 2009 where he moved to Oldham until May 2010. In January 2011 he was put in charge at Bristol Rovers however this only lasted 13 games winning only 2 and leaving in March 2011. He is currently Southend's assistant manager, to Phil Brown.
Jimmy Kelly

Danny Williams
Danny was a regular starter at Wrexham before being sent out on loan to Doncaster in 2001 by Wrexham manager Brian Flynn, he made 6 appearances for Rovers before returning to Wrexham to try and earn a contract extension, however he was released at the end of the season, he had made 40 appearances for Wrexham scoring 5 goals. He went on to join Kidderminster Harriers where he would stay until 2004 making 119 appearances scoring 12 goals. He had earned himself a loan move to promotion chasers Chester City before joining Bristol Rovers in March 2004 and returned to Wrexham at the end of the season. This time Danny stayed at Wrexham until 2008 making a further 126 appearances scoring 9 goals. At the end of the 2007/2008 season, with Wrexham relegated out of the football league, Danny was one of a number of players that were released. He moved to Rhyl in the Welsh Premier League, here he helped the club win the league. In 2009 he moved to Droylsden and in 2010 he joined Bala Town where he stayed for 2 years making 43 appearances before joining Denbigh Town in 2012.
Francis Tierney
Sir to you an me, described by Robbie Fowler in his book as a true talent, Robbie even admitted Franny to be a better player then him, the two attended the same school in Liverpool. Francis started his career at Crewe Alexander, and as a youngster attracted a lot of attention from Premiership clubs including Liverpool, who in 1993 made a successful bid of 750,000, however, this deal unfortunately fell through as he failed a medical. He suffered another setback the next season when he suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury, which kept him out for nearly a year. Upon comeback Francis suffered from inconsistency, mainly due to confidence. In 1998 he moved on from Crewe after making 87 appearances scoring 10 goals, winning promotion from Division 3 in 1994-1995 and Division 2 play offs 1996-1997 and signed for Notts County where he stayed until 2000 scoring 4 goals in 32 appearances. He then moved to Exeter however, he only made 7 appearances scoring 1 goal before his 2001 move to Doncaster. Many Rovers fans will know him as Sir Francis Tierney due to his 'golden goal' that won us the 2002-2003 Conference play off final at Stoke and promotion back into the football league on 10th May 2003. He was also part of the team that won the Division 3 the following year, despite being favorites to finish bottom. Franny left Belle Vue in 2005 due to injures and he joined Northwich Victoria however retired in 2006 after just a handful of appearances. Franny is a Doncaster Hero and always will be, but it must be said that it is unfortunate for him, as a player that was destined for bigger things then playing in the conference. If it wasn't for injures Francis Tierney would possibly be a household name, not just in Doncaster, but in England. Instead, Franny now is a lorry driver, living in Liverpool. He said his career was self destruction but had a high towards the end, meaning his time at Doncaster.
Every year Rovers fans want to name something after him a bar, a stand, a road, a food kiosk, a pint and i'm sure theres more examples.
Kevin McIntyre
The scouse lad started his career at Tranmere Rovers however he failed to make the grade, joining Rovers in 1998 where he stayed until 2002 making 65 appearances scoring 6 goals. He then joined Chester City until 2004 making 92 appearances, many will remember he scored during the playoff semi final against Rovers, out of favor Kevin moved to Macclesfield Town where he stayed until 2008 scoring 16 goals in 136 appearances. Between 2008 and 2011 he made 127 appearances for Shrewbury after signing for 50,000 pounds. He then went on to play for Accrington 2011-2012, Rochdale 2012-2013 and recently returned to the now reformed Chester where he remains today.
Strikers
Neil Campbell
Signed in 1999 having previously played for York, Scarborough and Southend before joining Rovers. He struggled in his time at Belle Vue, losing his place to Paul Barnes and Robert Gill. In 2002 Neil rejoined Scarborough after scoring just 16 goals in 74 appearances. He later went on to play for Leigh RMI on loan and Barrow until 2008. His brother Andy had a short loan spell with Rovers later on.
Ian Dureden
Signed from Halifax in 1998 and quickly became a fans favorite for his speed and power. Under Ian Snodin he attracted a lot of interest, with Rovers reportedly rejecting a 6 figure offers from Aberdeen, Bolton and QPR. However following Steve Wignall's appointment as manager, replacing Snodin, Duredan lost his place in the team. Something that many of us fans questioned. And so was born the famous shout 'GET DUREDAN ON!' Some say, it can still be heard today on occasions. November 2000 saw Ian move on loan to Kingstonia where he signed the following January. He later played for Barrow and Hucknall Town before moving to Altrincham, unfortunately due to injury Ian retired before playing a game for this club in 2002. Since retiring he became a fireman, now based in Norwich. Ian will always be remembered as a nice bloke to chat to, and always had team for the fans.
Carl Alford
What could of been, we should be remembering Carl as a Rovers hero. He was a truly prolific striker, however, it didn't quite work out that way during his Belle Vue days. Having started his career at Rochdale, he had spells with Burnley, Stockport and Macclesfield. However he didn't have much of an impact until his 1994 move to Kettering for 25,000. He spent 2 years at the club with the impressive record of 54 goals in 94 appearances. This goalscoring record attracted a lot of interest and he made a non-league record move to Rushden and Diamonds in 1996 for 85,000. Again he had an impressive record, this time scoring 22 goals in 52 appearances. However he fell out of favor in the 1997-1998 season and was loaned to Dover Athletic. Upon his return to his parent club he was moved to Stevenage Borough on a free transfer. He spent 2 years at the club with an incredible record of scoring more then a goal a game, making 39 appearances scoring 42 goals.
This form encouraged Rovers to spend 50,000 on him in 2000. This would seem like a good investment, as the players record up to this point was very impressive. Carl was not the most athletic striker, he wasn't the quickest but he could find the back of the net. Until, he came to Rovers. He spent a bi of time out injured with a knee injury, however his main concern was scoring just 1 goal in 17 appearances. In 2001 he was sent out on loan to Kettering, however he failed to find the net in his 4 appearances. In the summer 2001 Rovers allowed him to leave, and he joined Yeovil town, here his record improved slightly scoring 10 goals in 51 appearances. After this he became a journeyman, playing for Nuneaton, Gainsborough, Leigh RMI, Woodley sports, Nuneaton and lastly New Mills AFC during the 2006-2007.
He is now retired, and is now a UEFA B qualified coach and looking to return to the game as a coach.
Tristan Whitman
One of my personal favorites, many of you will recall the 1st of May 2003, during the play off semi final, first leg against Chester City, 4 minutes of added time and Rovers were 1-0 down thanks to a Kevin McIntyre goal, who was playing for Chester. With cramped up Ricky Ravenhill laying on the pitch, with less then a minute to play at the packed Belle Vue ground, Jamie Paterson laid the ball off for a edge of box shot by Tristan, scoring his 3rd goal in 4 games. Tristan has signed for Rovers in 2000 for 10,000 pounds from Arnold Town, initially he played in the reserves with Rovers being his first profession club, but he made his debut in November 2000, he went on to play 69 games scoring 15 goals. He will always be remember for that goal against Chester. In 2003 he joined Tamworth on loan, before moving to Dagenham and Redbridge, this was short lived as he joined Scarborough shortly after and then Leigh on loan. July 2004 saw Tris return to Tamworth making 53 appearances scoring 12 goals, in 2005 he spent a few months on loan to Crawley before signing for Farsley Celtic in July 2007. He has since had a spell with Carlton Town along with ex Rover Robert Gill. Tris is now a community coach with Notts County.
Robert Gill
Rob at Carlton
Rob started out at Nottingham Forest in their academy before joining Rovers youth team. He earned his place in the first team in 2001 and remained at the club until 2004 making 55 appearances and scoring 11 goals. In 2003 he was loaned out to Chester City as welll as spending loan spells with Dagenham & Redbridge and Burton Albion. He left Rovers in 2004 and signed for Scarborough before moving to Forest Green a year later. In 2006 he joined Hucknall before joining Ilkeston the same year. He has had a spell at New Zealand team, WaiBOP United. From research he returned to Hucknall before joining Carlton and signed for Rainworth in January 2012.Mike Turner
Unfortunately I do not know an awful lot about Mike, he was only at Rovers between 2000-2001 before being released and joining Bradford Park Avenue. He had previously been at Barnsley, Lincoln and Irish Club, Finn Harps.
Steve Halliday
Steve at Sunderland RCA where he now coaches
Started out at Hartlepool making 145 appearances scoring 26 goals between 1994 and 1998, he then moved to Scottish side Motherwell however he only made 9 appearances and failed to find the net before a loan move to Carlisle in 2000 where he would score 7 goals in 16 appearances. He was soon released by Motherwell and signed for Doncaster, however he only spent 3 months at Belle Vue making just 11 appearances and failing to score before returning to Carlisle. He made a further 66 appearances for them scoring 8 goals. In 2002 Steve joined non league Durham since leaving Durham he has played for Nissan, Sunderland RCA and Esh Winning. He is now coaching at Sunderland RCA.
